INSTAGRAM - YOU'VE GOT IT ALL WRONG!

INSTAGRAM - YOU'VE GOT IT ALL WRONG!

Instagram, Facebook’s newly purchased app that’s taking cyber space by storm, managing to recently top twitter in the daily mobile users scoreboard. (Which is an extravagant digit we reckon the East of London has most probably majorly contributed to).

But what actually is it about Instagram that’s getting all these bloody hipsters so hyper? The technological advancements? A few filter choices? Coz everyone else is? Well, kind of a bit of everything when it comes down to it. But really (and without trying to sound too cynical) it’s a way of making every day life look aesthetically pleasing at the same time as looking like you’re pretty darn good at taking a photo – but without actually taking a photo at all, just pressing a button really.

Don’t get us wrong we’re big fans of the washed out vintage look too. We get just the same sense of satisfaction from getting happy snappy with the on trend app. But it has led us to the question, can Instagram count as real photography?

It was more than just a point and shoot tactic back in the days of the Pentax and Kievs. A world of depth of field, IOS and shutter speeds. Photographers actually had to have a certain level of knowledge, understanding and timing to be able to take a good image with one of these bad boys. And now pretty much anyone, even (dare we say it) a monkey could take a shot and it would look artistically considered in some way, shape or form. However that’s not necessarily a bad thing, in many respects it shows just how technology advancements have been able to take photography in a completely new and modern direction that would never have even been considered possible 10 years ago.

But it seems people are clocking on to the downfall of the idea that Instagram is purely for easy aesthetics. Because like every other fad, the novelty will undoubtedly ware off soon enough.

In a recent short video by Instagram lover Casey Neistat, we’e informed how the app is ‘not about the pictures, it’s about the sharing’ with an in-depth guide illustrating ‘How not to suck so bad at Instagram’. The short video highlights how many people have got the concept all wrong. Its main purpose is primarily for sharing things easily between friends and followers and not for merely taking pretty photographs. So yes, we reckon you’re sodding right Neistat. #YOUREDOINGITALLWRONGBEIBER!
