C'EST LA VIE HMV

                                        C'EST LA VIE HMV

It was a sad day for all last week when HMV confessed it was packing up shop and leaving our high streets. ‘Where the hell am I going to buy my last minute Christmas present DVDs from now!?’… O cummon, we were all thinking it.

Since their rivals recent departure, we had a little premonition here at Sweet Images that Blockbusters might do quite well out of the big chain flop. Evidently, we couldn’t have been more wrong.

Whilst it’s true, watching online does lower the rental cost and eradicates the overdue charges, the truth of the matter is that going into a store and taking 30minutes to pick a film was an experience. It caused conversation, inspiration, fallouts, compromises – you could stock up on sugar snacks and fizzy pops in preparation for the night ahead! It made watching a film more of an occasion, not just something to fill a bit of time with.

Online is great, but it’s also taking the things in life that we love and turning them into the normal things we will eventually take for granted. Soon there will be nothing left to do in the real world. We may as well turn ourselves into tiny particles so we can roam the internet and never have to physically do anything or talk to anyone else every again! And the worrying thing is, no one really seem to care. #C’estlavie.
