NICE IPHONE 5 YOU GOT THERE, BLACKBERRY.

NICE IPHONE 5 YOU GOT THERE, BLACKBERRY.

Until last week there were two types of people in the world. The Samsung labeled ‘look how creative I am’ iPhoners, and the self proclaimed ‘look how organized I am’ Blackberry users. These two polar opposite worlds have always kept their distances from each other, acknowledging their differences in ethos and appearance whilst silently remaining connected via a corresponding respect for the great things new technology could offer them. It was a black and white world and we all felt comfortable living in it.

It’s safe to suggest that since the launch of the new Blackberry Z10 last week, its all gone a bit peek tong. For one the brand spanking new smartphone looks suspiciously similar to the new Apple iPhone 5… (Fancy that! A phone trying to copy Apple!). The only real physical difference is that it’s 0.1 ounces heavier, yet somehow still manages to feel overly clunky. That fact alone we could quite easily forgive, because to us one of the real benefits of the Blackberry was it’s wonderfully easy to use keypad. It’s wonderfully easy to use keypad that has since transformed into a standard android touchscreen that is. #shitit.

We can’t deny on the plus side its motion detectors are intuitive and sleek, spec wise it still probably has the upper hand over the iPhone 5, but if we’re being completely honest its apps are still crap and it’s maps are said to be worse than Apple Maps! – Which we weren’t even aware was a possible accomplishment.

So why has the Berry decided to compete with the big boys all of a sudden? It’s got a completely different target audience, so it seems to us the only logical answer is that the Z10 is really just a physical representation of Blackberry getting all flustered and attempting to play catch up to the ever advancing array of androids out there. It’s understandable, Nokia, Samsung and Apple are all quickly evolving at an impressively high standard. But surely desperately bundling into the ongoing battle is a very risky little idea – not to mention a totally unnecessary one. We kinda think Blackberry, you’ll never be ‘the coolest’ or ‘the most creative’. You are what you are, and a good amount of people love you for it, just embrace it.
