TRAIN APPS TO MAKE PUBLIC TRANSPORT LESS ANNOYING

TRAIN APPS TO MAKE PUBLIC TRANSPORT LESS ANNOYING

A weekend break away in Leeds you say? What a great idea! I’ll just get myself on the internet quickly to check the journey times, click on the most convenient route, agree to some spiel or other and… WHAT THE BLAADY HELL IS THIS!?? £68 for a single!?… Shall we just get take out instead? #valentinesdayfail.

But annoyingly sometimes it is necessary to fork out an arm and a leg on diabolical public transport – when it (slash if it ever) turns up is so jam packed you end up located next to the loo, bag between feet uncomfortably close to a stranger whilst enduring the lingering warmth of their moist breath on your face. It’s not acceptable but hey – this is England, we’ll just write an angry letter of complaint later.

In the mean time to help us deal with this never ending cycle of utter shitness, Dutch national train operator NS are developing an app called Planner Xtra that gives people a rough overview of how busy the trains they plan to catch are. In other words ‘we’re not going to put money into improving your public transport, instead we’re going to put it towards designing this clever little app to show you just how ‘down with the kids’ we are. Because that is quite clearly a better investment for your services, isn’t it NS. #Niceone.

But the app does come with some advantages, updated in Realtime for each train and with the added detail of carriage occupancy so people can chose where to stand appropriately on the platform, it’s safe to say this bad boy could really take off in all major cities over the world – just don’t go introducing it to the Northern Line Boris, you’d have a bloody capacity warning for every single train. SORT IT AAAAAT!
